Travel plan for first timers in Hiroshima

In addition to the historic sites of war in Hiroshima, the city which suffered the atomic bomb, this course also entails a visit to a Daimyo Teien (feudal lord’s garden) and a castle which have been preserved since the Edo Era where you can enjoy the scenery there throughout all four seasons. You can also partake in the famous Hiroshima dish of okonomiyaki.

Tour the A-Bomb Dome which has been spoken of as the Legacy of Tragedy. Its appearance hasn’t changed since the bomb struck the area and has become a symbol of Hiroshima praying for world peace.

10:00 AM 10:30 AM   -   Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park


Close to ground zero of the atomic explosion, this is a memorial park built as a prayer for a permanent peace in the world. Walk through the large park and tour the memorial cenotaph for the victims of the atom bomb, the Children’s Peace Monument, and the Peace Bells.

10:40 AM 11:40 AM   -   Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum


A museum displaying articles left by the deceased when the bomb fell. The valuable pieces of evidence include objects destroyed from the heat generated by the bomb and stone steps retaining the shadows of the people vaporized.

12:00 PM 01:30 PM   -   Okonomimura


Return to the Genbaku Dome-mae (Atomic Bomb Dome) bus stop and board the Meipuru-pu Bus (Green Route) to head for Okonomimura. Take a look through the building filled with okonomiyaki shops and then have lunch at the one place you like.

Stroll through the Daimyo Teien of the Edo Era. Admire the garden which is beautiful throughout all four seasons and then take a break enjoying matcha tea or coffee. The Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum is next to the garden, so if you have time, drop by there as well.

03:10 PM 04:30 PM   -   Hiroshima Castle


Tour Hiroshima Castle, a National Treasure. You can get a full view of the city of Hiroshima from the observation room in the highest floor of the castle. At the experience corner, getting into samurai wear and taking the commemorative photo is popular.
