Hiroshima 1 day (A-Bomb Dome〜Miyajima)

Following a tour of the A-Bomb Dome and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, you will head to the island of Miyajima, filled with historical legend. Boarding a high-speed ferry on a World Heritage sea route, you will be able to visit 2 of the World Heritage sites representing the famous sites of Hiroshima during your day.

Day 1 - Hiroshima

09:30 AM 09:50 AM   -   The Atomic Bomb Dome


Tour the Atomic Bomb Dome, a symbol of Hiroshima that is known as “the World Heritage site of Loss”.
The boarding area for the high-speed ferry which travels on a World Heritage route is located at Motoyasu Bridge, adjacent to Peace Memorial Park, some 150m away from the Dome. Before touring the park, it’s advisable to take another check of the operations and times of the ferry.

10:00 AM 12:00 PM   -   Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum


Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park was built close to the center of the explosion. After a walk through the wide park, head over to the museum which has relics from the time of the atomic explosion on display.
Following the tour, have lunch in the Motoyasu Bridge area. There are plenty of restaurants serving the Hiroshima delicacy of okonomiyaki and oyster dishes. Just be careful of how you spend your time touring and eating so that you are not late for the ferry.

12:20 PM 01:05 PM   -   Motoyasu Bridge


Head for Miyajima by high-speed ferry traveling on a World Heritage route. For travel on the route, please check ocean conditions beforehand since ferry travel on the day may be cancelled.

01:20 PM 02:10 PM   -   Itsukushima Shrine


Visit the World Heritage site of Itsukushima Shrine with the mysterious red torii gate that stands in the middle of the sea. After arriving at Miyajima Island by high-speed ferry, it takes about 10 minutes on foot to reach the shrine. When you arrive, check the status and times for the ferry for the trip back to the mainland.

02:15 PM 02:30 PM   -   Daigan-ji Temple


Walk over to Daigan-ji Temple which is right next to the exit for Itsukushima Shrine. Normally entry into the temple buildings isn’t possible, so you can only walk on the temple grounds. The temple is known for the enshrined gods of scholarship, art and performing arts.

02:35 PM 02:45 PM   -   Gojunoto (Five Storied Pagoda)


A tour of the brilliant red pagoda which impressively soars into the sky. Gojunoto is known for its distinct appearance that beautifully blends together Japanese and Chinese architectural styles.

02:50 PM 03:30 PM   -   Houkoku Shrine (Senjokaku)


Visit Senjokaku which is known to be the largest building on the island. Its construction had been ordered by the 16th-century shogun Hideyoshi Toyotomi but the project was never completed although you can see the remains of the architecture.

Stroll down this street which is bustling with activity on Miyajima. You can easily savor the local cuisine there which includes grilled oysters and momiji buns or enjoy souvenir shopping.

04:20 PM 04:25 PM   -   Miyajima (High-speed Ferry/World Heritage Sea Route)


Head back from Miyajima along the World Heritage sea route to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Please take care not to confuse the boarding area with the one for the JR Miyajima ferry.

05:10 PM 05:10 PM   -   Motoyasu Bridge


When you have reached Motoyasu Bridge, head back to the A-Bomb Dome. Take the Meipuru-pu bus or the streetcar back to JR Hiroshima Station.
