Go to the popular spots for Osaka cuisine that you’ll want to try at your leisure especially on a rainy day. After touring a museum that has recreated an Edo Era townscape, head for the commercial district that has been dubbed “The Kitchen of the Local People”. Truly enjoy the taste of Osaka that is beloved by the locals. Finally, try making your own takoyaki in Dotombori, the town of kuidaore!

Day 1 - Osaka

10:00 AM 11:20 AM   -   The Osaka Museum of Housing and Living


Explore The Osaka Museum of Housing and Living where you can enjoy displays associated with housing and lifestyle along with a recreation of an Edo Era town. There is also a very popular attraction of trying on kimono and taking a commemorative photo with the town as a backdrop. However, this is only open to the first 300 visitors so please make arrangements at Reception as soon as you enter the museum.
To get to the museum, get off at Tenjinbashisuji 6-chome Station on the subway. Then go out Exit No. 3 which is connected to the basement floor of the Osaka Municipal Housing Information Center and take the elevator up to the 8th floor where the museum is located.

11:30 AM 01:00 PM   -   Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street


Take a walk through Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street which is famous as Japan’s longest arcade shopping district. As you experience the life of the local people here, you can also take part in the shopping and the superb Osakan dishes of the regular people. It’s just a short hop from The Osaka Museum of Housing and Living.

01:30 PM 02:00 PM   -   Dotonbori


Head for the center of Osaka cuisine, Dotombori. While admiring the brash and colorful signboards of this lively downtown area and enjoying the walk, drop by the Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum.

A tranquil art museum located in Dotombori. Somewhat different from the ukiyo-e of Edo (present-day Tokyo), Kamigata (Kansai) ukiyo-e (also known as Osaka Prints) whose attractive works are filled with humanity can be appreciated here.

Participate in a workshop involving takoyaki, the famous dish of Osaka. Watch takoyaki actually being made by the pros and even enjoy making your own takoyaki. Visitors can even apply to make wax models of the dish.

04:30 PM 06:00 PM   -   Minami (Namba)


Walk through the Minami area which is the town of kuidaore including Dotombori. Although you can fully enjoy the food of Osaka while forgetting about the time, it’s also recommended that you do some shopping and walking through the kitchenware district of Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping Street (however be aware that many of the stores close at 6:00pm).
