If I was travelling to Hakone for a day trip from Tokyo, do I have to pre-book to use the hot springs?

If you're just going to use the hotspring then you don't need to make a booking. But you need to go to a facility that accepts daytime visitors and not only staying guests. This website lists some places that accept daytime users. Enjoy!
