Hi, I have a few questions about the onsen, I'm quite keen to do it with a couple of friends, but it would be very helpful to know these questions.
In the Yumoto Onsen, are there private onsen that you can pay for, or just group ones for all customers? Do they allow both genders in the same onsen? Are the onsen all ages? In the onsen, do you have to be nude, or are you allowed clothes?

You’re taking about Hakone Yumoto Onsen right?
Most onsens are for all customers of all ages, and are separated by gender. Some hotels/ryokans have what is called a family onsen which is a private onsen which you can rent for 1 hour, in which people of both genders can go in together. Mostly this is for people staying at that hotel/ryokan and not for day time visitors. And you do have to be nude to go in the onsen. You cannot wear any clothes.
