Hokkaido in summer or winter, which is better?

I'd like to visit Hokkaido, but I'm not sure if I should go in winter or in the summer. When is the best time to visit Hokkaido? I will have my family ( wife, 3 kids, the smallest is 2 years old) with me. Which do you think is better?

Both seasons are popular, but it depends on what you'd like to see. Summer is the flowering season in Hokkaido with many flower festivals. The Furano/Biei area is beautiful then.

If you enjoy skiing and winter/snow festivals, then winter is the time to go. The most famous winter festival in Hokkaido is the Sapporo Snow Festival.
