I heard from my friend living in Tokyo that even a big metropolitan city like Tokyo is a super safe city and that she can walk the streets after midnight by herself without being harassed by anyone. Is this true??

Yes, Japan has the reputation of being a very safe and harmonious country due to its group mentality and low income differences. Also, guns or knives are not allowed to be carried around. Even so, one should be careful still when walking the streets by themselves at night, because crimes do still happen.
