Hi
I'm looking to travel to the Tohoku area after travelling around Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Tokyo. Does this trip seem doable or do you think it'll be too rushed? I only have 5 days to spend around Tohoku.
1 - travel from Tokyo to Sendai, spend the day at Sendai
2 - Travel to Kazuno-Hanawa for the Hanawa Bayashi Festival
3 - Kakunodate (either stay there or Hiraizumi for the night)
4 - Hiraizumi (staying at Sendai for the night)
5 - Yamadera day trip (staying at Sendai for the night)
6 - Return to Tokyo
Next, I'm wondering if someone could help me out regarding the Hanawa Bayashi Festival. Do I need to get tickets in order to go or is that just for those performing? What I've got from google translate is rather confusing.
I haven't been able to get accommodation at Kazuno-Hanawa during the festival. It seems like the festival events will begin early that day and conclude around 2am or so. I'm thinking of either getting there quite early that morning and catching the last train to my accommodation (probably around 8pm - I will aim for somewhere only 1-2 hours away on the train) or getting there later in the afternoon and staying up until the first train to my next destination (around 5 am). Do you have any tips or recommendations? I'm wondering if I should just skip the festival due to the issues I'm having finding a place to stay at.
As a side question, would you recommend spending 2 days at Kanazawa or splitting it to 1 day at Kanazawa and 1 day at Nagano?
I would love any tips and advice I can get.
If you're planning to go to the festival on Aug. 19, the parade seems to start from the evening from around 17:30-19:50. On the 20th, there's a parade at around 2am, and then things start up around 11am till evening. You don't need any tickets, just go there. You're looking at a 5 - 6 hour train ride on Day 2&3 but I think it's doable, if you're able to find accommodations somewhere.
As for Kanazawa, I would recommend spending 2 days there.

Thanks a lot for the help Adam! I'm glad to know I won't be needing to buy tickets to go along. Thanks!
