Hi- I will be traveling to Japan tomorrow. My homebase will be in Tokyo and will be branching out to Nikko and Hakone for one night stays each. Should i buy the 14 day JR pass, or just ride buses/basic rail ways?
I will be stayin in japan for 15 days. Nikko and Hakone will be on seperate occasions within those 15 days.

HI Michael!
I believe you don't need the JR pass in these cases. If you decide to also visit Kyoto in the meantime, it will be worth it, but only for Nikko and Hakone it seems cheaper to buy the regular tickets.
