We’d like to go and see Shirakawago and the Takayama area. We’ll be staying in Kanazawa the previous night and have booked accommodations in Takayama for that night. Now the problem is figuring out how to get there. Do we take the train? Or a bus?

You’ll need to take a bus to Shirakawago and then another bus to Takayama after you've seen the World Heritage site. And you'll need to reserve your seats so plan to do that ahead of time. There are two bus companies so look at their time tables and choose something that suits you.
