My husband and I will move to Japan soon for a few years and we cannot imagine having to let our little pooch at home! Who can tell me what paperwork needs to be prepared before coming to Japan?

If you want to bring your dog to Japan, make sure he or she is chipped first. This can be done at your veterinary. The Japanese Animal Quarantine Service (AQS) will need copies of the official papers of the chip.
Then, at least 40 days before your leave you will have to file an Advance Notification to the AQS.Next step is to vaccinate your pet and have blood titer test which has to be done at least 180 days before your arrival but not longer than 2 years before arrival in Japan.
Now, you might want to start looking for a pet carrier that has enough room to be comfortable in. Look at your airline's guidelines to make sure you get the right one.
Then, an accredited veterinarian must complete Japan's Veterinary Certificate in the two days before you leave, not any sooner.
Upon arrival in Japan you will have to fill in once more a form for the AQS. Your pet will stay in quarantine for about 12 more hours and then you're to take him home with you!
