I'll be visiting Kyoto with my parents next month. They're in their late sixties and still healthy so will be able to handle some walking. However, I'd like to be able to limit their walking to a minimum so that they don't get too tired. So I'd like to know the most convenient places (hotels) to stay in Kyoto for sightseeing.
The sightseeing spots in Kyoto are dispersed all over the city so it's hard to say where is the most convenient, but the downtown Higashiyama area, and the area near Kyoto station is popular. Kyoto Century Hotel and Hotel Granvia Kyoto are nice hotels in/near Kyoto station, the Hyatt Regency and Kyoto Hotel Okura in the downtown Higashiyama area are popular places to stay.
