I'm going to be visiting the areas in the Tohoku region that were affected in the big tsunami. My parents (very overprotective) are really concerned about the radiation accident. I'm not worried about it at all, but at the same time I'd like to reassure them.

You can tell your parents that Japan is one of the safest places to travel in. It's been years since the accident and even if you're going to the Tohoku area, the areas that were affected are off limits, meaning any areas that are not off limits is safe.
