But for planning your trip I think the best way is to start from Tokyo, spend a few days in Tokyo visiting the city and the cities around (Kamakura, Enoshima, Mt Fuji, Hakone, etc). then start your trip to Kyoto passing through Hiroshima, Osaka, Nara, etc.
