I’ve read that there was a situation with the spreading of the Norovirus, and people get it especially in winter. Is it safe to go eat the oysters in Hiroshima? I plan to go to Miyajima. Also, is there a difference if I eat it raw or cooked?

I ate some oysters when I went to Miyajima, but I didn't get the virus. But I think it's safer to eat them cooked. The deep-fried ones (Kaki-fry) are delicious. I also tried the hot pot (nabe) and that was also pretty good.

In general, eating raw oysters can cause Norovirus infection. But the frequency of Norovirus transmitted through oysters has been considered low in Japan, and the government doesn't think it a significant risk in Japan.
