Hi, I’m going to Universal Studios with my friends next summer for the first time. We want to get on as many rides as we can but our main goal is the Harry Potter World. Do we need to buy a Express Pass? Or do we not need one?
If we need to wake up really early in the morning, we’re willing to do so. But we want to make sure that we get the timed ticket to get into the Harry Potter area.
If we do need to buy a Express Pass, where do we buy one? And is it possible to buy it ahead of time? And how much is it?
Without the express pass to Harry Potter World, you can go very early before park opening & run to get a timed entry ticket when you get in. These tickets are limited & will be snatched up immediately, so be prepared to run
- Harry Potter World (most of the time) opens up in the late afternoon/ evening without timed entry so you will be able to get in without a timed entry ticket. However, it is crowded in the summer time or weekends, so this isn’t guaranteed.
If you want to be very very sure that you can get in, you will have to buy express passes. These guarantee your entry. You can buy them ahead of time only on the USJ Japanese website. The USJ English website does not sell the express passes directly, but it will tell you travel agencies through which you can buy them.

It seems like getting the express pass is the safer way to go. thanks
