I'd like to plan a day trip to Mt. Fuji. But when I research on the internet a lot of the info points to going to Hakone where a view of the mountain isn't guaranteed. Also Lake Kawaguchiko comes up a lot too, but not much information about getting to the mountain itself. I really want to be able to see the mountain, though I know it depends on the weather. Where should I go and how do I get there from Tokyo?

How to get there depends on if you want to go to the 5th station on Mt. Fuji or if you want to see Mt. Fuji from a little ways apart at Lake Kawaguchiko. Some people say that seeing Mt. Fuji up close and personal is too close, and there's a better view from Kawaguchiko.
Either way, you can take the direct bus to Kawaguchiko station from either Tokyo, Shinjuku, or Shibuya station. It takes about 2 hours each way.
