We’re going to be visiting family in Akita. Afterwards, we’d like to go sightseeing in Kakunodate before heading home. What is there to see?

If you're going in spring (late April to early May) definitely go see the cherry blossoms. Other than that, there’s the old houses/stores in the samurai district and the merchant district. They're very picturesque so you should go see those.
