Hi all,
Am interested in going to Kyushu in January, intend to travel around by public transport.
1. Do yall have any tips on less touristy, slightly off the beaten path sights and attractions in Kyushu? Any prefecture is welcome!
2. What are you recommendations for ryokans in Yufuin and Kurokawa Onsens?
3. Are there any places I shouldnt go to (such as due to very tricky access, chances of getting snowed in), and just any other tips in general.
Thanks so much!
Akane
Do you know about the Nagasaki Lantern Festival? It's held at the very end of January to early February, so I would go see it if you're still in town. I also enjoyed the Shimabara area. https://planetyze.com/en/japan/search?q=Shimabara
These websites give recommendations on ryokans. Maybe you'll be able to find a nice one to stay at in Yufuin and Kurokawa Onsen here. http://selected-ryokan.com/ryokan/location/yufuin-hot-spring

I don't think it snows that much in Kyushu unless you go up really high in the mountains. If you stay in the areas where the trains are running and the main onsen areas, I think you should be fine.
Enjoy your trip!
