We want to go see the Big Buddha in Nara. How do we get there from Kyoto? We want to go there as a day trip.

The Buddha is at Todaiji temple. Take the JR Limited Express Miyako from JR Kyoto Station to JR Nara Station. Then get on the city circulating bus and get off at Daibutsuden Kasugataishamae bus stop. It's a quick walk from there. Or just take a cab from the station.
