I've been living in tokyo for a short time and I'm renting a house. However, I am considering getting a loan and bying my own property, as this may be more inteligent, I can use the same rent money to pay for a house of my own. I want to stay in Japan for a long time so I'd like to know about this:
Are foreigners allowed to buy property in Japan?

It is possible. There are no restriction in Japan regarding to real estate ownership of land. Any person from any country is allowed to buy property. Please refer to this website for more information: http://www.realestate-tokyo.com/news/can-a-foreigner-buy-property-in-japan/

Hi Charles, like Sylvie said, there are no restrictions. However it may be very difficult to get a loan if you are living in Japan for less than 5 years, and the credit companies almost always require that you have a long-term visa, a stable job and that you have been living here for over 5 years at least.
Good luck!
