I've never been to Japan before, and on my first visit I'd like to mix a bit of its huge cities with Japan's super old traditions and landscapes.
What would be a shortlist of must-see places to get a general feel of Japan? I'd probably spend 2-3 weeks there.
Thanks!

If you're spending a few weeks in Japan, you're probably going to areas other than Tokyo right? If so, below are some must see places.
In or near Tokyo - Asakusa, Tokyo Tower, Meiji Jingu Shrine, Shibuya/Harajuku, Nikko ( world heritage site), Kamakura, Hakone ( hot springs)
In or near Kyoto - Kiyomizudera temple, Kinkakuji temple ( golden pavilion) Ginkakuji temple, Arashiyama, Todaiji temple, Horyuji temple
Osaka - Dotombori, Umeda area, Osaka castle
Kanazawa - Kenrokuen garden, Kanazawa castle
if you have time go to Shirakawago too, another Heritage site.
