While we're staying in Osaka, we’d like to make a day trip to Kobe. My kids are especially interested in visiting Kobe Harborland and going on the Ferris Wheel. How do we get there from Osaka? Do we need to get on the Shinkansen to get to Kobe?

You can ride the Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka station to Shin-Kobe station and from there get on the subway to Sannomiya station if you want to, but it's much cheaper and easier to get on the JR Kobe line express to Kobe station. It’s about a 30 min. ride on the express train and a 3 min. walk from Kobe station to Kobe Harborland.
