Other than Nikko and the World Heritage site, could you please tell me what else there is to see? I don't want to waste a trip just seeing the famous Shrine if there are other things to see as well.

You can go to Nikko Edo Wonderland which is like a Edo period theme park, or you can go to Nasu Kogen if you like nature and hiking. Or you can go to the Kinugawa area which is famous for its onsen and the Tobu World Square (a theme park of World Heritage miniatures). Ashikaga Flower park is also a famous botanical garden in Tochigi.
