Shimoda as a day trip or a overnight trip?

I would recommend doing it as an overnight trip as it's pretty far away, even though it may seem relatively close. It's going to take you maybe 3.5 hours to get to Shimoda even from Yokohama, so start in the morning and get there around lunch time, spend the night, and start back in the afternoon on your 2nd day.
